Biography

From FAG: Mary was born circa 1815. It is thought that her mother was "Betsy" Campbell who was living with Mary and Joshua Allen on 1850 Nelson Co., VA census showing aged 61 and born in VA. Some researchers believe Mary's father was George H. Campbell but he was her brother.

Mary married Joshua B. Allen on May 12, 1832 in Nelson Co., VA. They had 8 known children. 1 - Robert Hall Allen, 1833-1908; spouse Mary Margaret Fauber 2 - Elizabeth Allen, ca 1834-1882; spouse John Patterson 3 - William Allen, 1837-1861 4 - George Givens Allen, 1838-1906; spouse Jane Sholts Wood 5 - Nancy F. Allen, 1840-1915, spouse Jesse Coffey 6 - Mack Allen, ca 1843 7 - Sarah Margaret Allen, 1845 - d after 1930 possibly in WV; spouses Martin Henry Lotts and Samuel K. Bryant 8 - Malinda Allen - 1853

Per family stories - upon Mary's son, William's death in Sep 1861 due to an illness contracted in the Civil War, Mary was so grief stricken that she became ill, never recovered and died shortly thereafter; thus in either late 1861 or early 1862. Her burial location is unknown but probably in Nelson Co., VA. She was my 3x gr-grandmother via her daughter, Nancy, who married Jesse Coffey. Shirley Houk
