Biography

According to her gravestone, Mary was born on 26 Apr 1845.[1] However her death certificate says her birthdate was 10 June 1846.

Theodore John Ramsaur married Mary Canipe (1845 - 1919),[1] on 18 Nov 1869 in Lincoln County, North Carolina.[2]

She passed away on 4 Jul 1919 while at The Oaks, a rice plantation jointly owned by her sons on the Cape Fear River at Town Creek, Brunswick County, NC. (The Oaks is near Orton Plantation and Old Brunswick Town, off of NC Highway 133). Her granddaughter Betty Lee Ramseur, wrote, "She died in the summer of 1919 [July 4] when I was nine years old and I remember Daddy coming in sometime during the night and saying to Mother, 'Maw's gone.' She is buried in Lincoln County beside Grandpa, who died before Mother and Daddy were married." [3] Mary is buried at the Ramsaur-Ramsour Cemetery, Lincolnton, Lincoln County, North Carolina, USA.[1] You can see a picture of her gravestone at Find A Grave.

Note that her Find A Grave profile says her death date was July 3, 1919, and her gravestone says her death date was July 5th, 1919. Her death certificate [4] indicates that her death date was July 4, and that corresponds directly to the recollection of her granddaughter Betty Lee Ramseur, who was present at her death.[3] Therefore the July 4th date is considered to be the most reliable.
