Tedaldo was one of the three sons of Adalberto Atto di Canossa, Conte di Reggio e Modena, and later Conte di Mantua, and his wife Hildegarde or Ildegarde. Tedaldo's birth date of about 0960 is a very rough guess and could be out by 10 or more years, though it is unlikely to be much later than that.
He was referred to as Count or Conte in December 975 and probably succeeded his father as Conte di Reggio and later as Marchese. After Tedaldo made his allegiance to Emperor Heinrich II he also acquired Ferrara.[1] He founded the Abbey of San Benedetto in June 1007 after the death of his wife.
Tedaldo died on 8 May, probably in the year 1012 and was buried at Canossa.
He had married Guillia (or Willa) (died 30 August, before 1007 and was buried at Florence), either daughter of Teubaldo, Marchese and Duca di Spoleto, or Uberto (Hubert) di Spoleto, illegitimate son of Ugo, King of Italy.[2]
They had 3 sons;
