John Floyd Capps was born 23 December 1892 in Geneva County, Alabama, United States in a community called Costilla.[1] He was the son of Thomas Warren Capps (1861-1942) and Martha L. Martin.[2]
He was first married to Delia Thrasher on 25 December 1924 in Etowah County, Alabama. (Her maiden name was Henegar.) Delia passed away in 1931.[3]
He was married second to Ada Etta Baker at least by 1939. Son Eric Baker Capps was mentioned on the 1940 United States Census. He was recorded as the father of Rita (Wilkins) in her marriage record to Mariner Hugh Gibbs in 1982. His wife and both children were listed in his obituary.[4]
He was a farmer by occupation.
He was a military veteran of World War I. He enlisted 24 May 1918 and was honorably discharged 21 May 1919. The last unit in which he served was Machine Gun Company (MG Co). 127th Infantry. His highest rank achieved was Private.[5][6][7]
John Floyd Capps passed away on 31 July 1956 in Geneva County, Alabama.[2] He was buried in Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Geneva County, Alabama.[4][8]
