Biography

Timothy was born in 1670. He passed away in 1706.

~ The Carll Family ~

One of the early families of Huntington were the Carll’s, which in the early town records is sometimes spelt Carle, or Karle. Timothy the son of Captain Thomas Carll and Sarah Halsted, of Hempstead, was the first to move to the area. It is not known just when he came here but it is said that he was not living here when he married Mary Platt of Huntington around 1697. The story that has come down through the family is that he was offered free land by the town of Huntington in exchange for training the militia and helping to protect the people. He was said to be a man of great military skill and tactics, and well versed in politics and the law. Later members of the family researching this story have said they could not find any records, or papers, to document the story of any free land but that he was a military man and all his land deals afterwards were well documented.

Carle-1584 and Carll-41 appear to represent the same person because: Similar estimated dates, same parents for sure, same name of wife (she's in for a merge, too). The way things are set up now, the last name will be CARLL. If I recall my reading from long ago, the Queens-Nassau Carle's went with CARLE, and the Suffolk CaRLLs went with the Double L. At the time, all realized there was a switch on somebody's part, and there is, after all, Carle Place. You guys will decide the fate of the spelling of the new profile. I see some children appear to have taken CARLE. Maybe you're already in agreement. But I do see a clear duplicate. Thanks.
