Luther Woodson Carpenter was born on March 4, 1889 in Morgan, Kentucky, United States, son of Levi Frank Carpenter (~1867– ) and Martha Jane McGuire (~1867– ).

Luther (17) married Ethel May Taylor (16) (born on May 28, 1890 in Buffalo, Leon, Texas; daughter of Josiah Anderson Taylor and Mary Jane (Sessions) Taylor) in 1907 in Oklahoma, United States.^[1] Their children were:
