Biography

The son of William Scott Carson and Cynthia (Broadwell) Carson, Winfield Carson was born in, or near, Pleasant Plains, Illinois[citation needed] in 1843, residing there with his family.[1][2]

Winfield married Emma Josephine (Taylor) Carson, marrying in Sangamon County, Illinois on March 27, 1866,[3] having nine known children together:

  1. William Ellsworth Carson (1867-)
  2. Jane Alice Carson (1869-1878)
  3. Charles Taylor Carson (1871-)
  4. Luella Adeline (Carson) Price (1875-1949)
  5. John Leroy Carson (1878-1880)
  6. Violet A. Carson (1880-1881)
  7. Grace Rosalind Carson (1882-1962)
  8. Lydia Antoinette Carson (1884-1885)
  9. Frederick Clifton Carson (1887-1938)

After making their home for a time in Cartwright Township, Illinois,[4] Winfield and his family, including some of his siblings and his wife's siblings, migrated west, residing in 1880 in Vesta, Nebraska[5] and by 1900 in Bear Creek Township, MIssouri.[6] By 1910, Winfield and his family had settled in Colton, California.[7][8][9]

Widowed in 1930, Winfield Carson passed away in Colton, California[10] at the age of 90 and is buried at Hermosa Gardens Cemetery in Colton.[11]
