Winfield married Emma Josephine (Taylor) Carson, marrying in Sangamon County, Illinois on March 27, 1866,[3] having nine known children together:

After making their home for a time in Cartwright Township, Illinois,[4] Winfield and his family, including some of his siblings and his wife's siblings, migrated west, residing in 1880 in Vesta, Nebraska[5] and by 1900 in Bear Creek Township, MIssouri.[6] By 1910, Winfield and his family had settled in Colton, California.[7][8][9]
Widowed in 1930, Winfield Carson passed away in Colton, California[10] at the age of 90 and is buried at Hermosa Gardens Cemetery in Colton.[11]
