Biography

Mervyn was born in Tirmacshane in 1917. He is the son of Samuel Carson and Eliza Jane Barnes.

He attended several family funerals:

Mervyn died in 1939 aged 22. [1]

Carson Mervyn George of Tullycall county Tyrone farmer died 14 December 1939 Administration Belfast 14 November to Elizabeth Jane Carson widow. Effects £209 5s. This is probably the Will of this Mervyn Carson.[2]

Mr Mervyn G. Carson Tullycoll The sympathy of the entire district is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Carson, of Tullycoll, Cookstown, on the occasion of the death of their only and dearly. beloved son, Mervyn. Only a fortnight ago he developed a rare and obscure disease, and on the advice of his medical adviser, he was removed to the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast, where he could receive the most modern treatment for his ailment. Unfortunately, his disease did not yield to the remedies employed, and he passed away on 14th December. Deceased was a young man of exceptional promise, only 22 years of age. ever ready to assist his parents in whatever duty was required. Amongst his companions he was a great favourite. being the life and soul of every gathering. He was a loyal brother and supporter of Drumnaglough L.O.L. No. 199 The entire community is much the poorer of his death. His remains were removed on Sunday for interment in Clare Church-yard, the entire community turning out to pay a last tribute of respect to their departed friend. Rev. R. C. O'Connor. B.A., conducted Divine services in the home, Clare Church and Churchyard. The chief mourners were:-

  • William, Robert J. Thom, Thomas Ferson Bob Moore, John Parke, Sam Wilson, Wm. Carson (relatives).

Wreaths were placed on the grave:

  • " In loving menory of dear Mervyn. from his sorrowing father and mother."
  • " In affectionate remembrance of Mervyn, from Martha, George and family.
  • " With everlasting remembrance. from Uncle Tom and family."
  • " With deepest sympathy. from Maggie and John."
  • "With deepest sympathy and in fond remembrance from Tillie.
  • "With deepest sympathy, from W. Carson and Nancy Sarah Carson, and Mary Ann Spallen."
  • " With deepest sympathy, from Tommie and Ena."
  • "In loving memory of Brother M. G. Carson, from the Officers and Members of Drunnaglough L.O.L. 199." [3]

Research

He was incorrectly added as a child of a different George Carson due to both being married to a wife with Barnes as her surname at birth.
