Joseph was born in 1815. He was the son of Thomas Carson and Elizabeth Waggett.

He was educated by Mr Coghland and entered Trinity College Dublin on 30 August 1830, aged 15. Sch 1833, B.A. 1835, Fellow 1837, M.A. 1839, B.D. 1848, D.D. 1850. ^[1]

Joseph married Harriett Blunden, only daughter of William Pitt Blunden, of Wellington, co. Kilkenny, and Harriett Pope, on 21 July 1841.

July 21, at Ennisnagg Church, by the Rev. Henry Herbert, the Rev. Joseph Carson, Fellow of Trinity College, Dublin, youngest son of the late Rev. Thomas Carson, Rector of Kllmahon to Harriet, only daughter of the late William Pitt Blunden, of Wellington in the county Kilkenny, Esq., and sister to Sir John Blunden, Bart. of Castle Blunden.

3. Elizabeth Sophia, married 4 September 1873, Ven. Robert Walsh, M.A., Rector of Donnybrook and Archdeacon of Dublin, eldest son of Right Hon. John Edward Walsh, formerly Master of the Rolls in Ireland.
