Robert Perry Carter DID NOT marry an ‘ELLIS’. He married Susannah Evans born 16 Jan 1753 Goochland Co. VA, daughter of Joseph Evans and Susannah Lacy on the 15 April 1772 in Goochland Co. VA. This is further proved by the 23 April 1802 marriage record for Nancy Carter to William Thurman which names her mother as Susanna Carter. Susannah (Evans) Carter was still alive on the 22nd Sept 1803 in Fayette Co. KY. when she, her son-in-law William Wood & Martha his wife; and William Thurman & Nancy his wife sold 200 acres in Goochland Co. VA to Ellis Puryear.

Susannah Carter who married Robert P. Carter, Sr. WAS an Ellis, not Evans. Please remove your comment and no myth has been busted. There was a different Robert Carter who married Susannah Evans. The surety for Susannah's daughter, Martha when she married William Wood was HER BROTHER Stephen Ellis and witness was his son, Daniel Ellis. When Susannah sold her Goochland property and removed to KY to join her daughter Martha Carter Wood, she sold all her property to her nephew ELLIS PURYEAR son of her SISTER MARY ELLIS Puryear, wife of Hezekiah Puryear. Susannah was named as Carter is her father Joseph Ellis' will.
