Daniel Merrill Carter was born on 14 Jan 1816[1] in Sedgwick, Hancock, Maine, United States, son of John Carter (1774 - 1868) and Phebe (Friend) Carter (1781 - ).
Daniel married Mehitabel G. Grindle (1822 - 1914) on 3 Jun 1841[2] in Blue Hill, Hancock. Their children were:
- Ezra Pearl Carter (1843 - ~1903)
- Joseph Marks Carter (1845 - )
- Allen Pert Carter (1847 - 1899)
- Edward Arthur Carter (1849 - ~1940)
- Lillian Anna Carter (1851 - )
- Clara Estelle Carter (1853 - )

- Eugene Ulmer Carter (1865 - 1947)
- Elsie Bertha (Carter) Woodbury (1867 - ~1955).
Daniel died on 2 Sep 1898[3][4] in Blue Hill aged 82. He is buried in Seaside Cemetery, Blue Hill.
