Biography

Edmund Cartlidge was born in Cheshire, England.

Edmund was born in Astbury, Cheshire, England, in 1866.^[1] His birth was registered in the first quarter in Congleton. He was the son of Henshall Cartlidge and Elizabeth Lewis. He was baptized on February 4, 1866, in Astbury, at St Mary.^[2] He was enumerated in the 1871 census ^[3] as a five year old, and one of eight children, residing with his parents in Astbury.

Edmund married Mary Ann Mannion in 1884.^[4] The marriage was registered in the fourth quarter in Wigan, Lancashire. The couple would have at least five children. Edmund and Mary were living on Wigan Lane, Over Hulton Lancashire (Registration District Bolton) in 1891.^[5] They had three children ages five to one year at residence. Edmund's occupation, "Colliery Laborer". In 1901, ^[6] the family was living in Bolton. There were five children, ages fifteen to one. Edmund's brother Clement, nephew Henshall, and two boarders also at residence. His occupation, "Coal Miner" (Below Ground). In 1911, ^[7] the family was in South West Bolton. Edmund was a "Colliery Laborer" (Above Ground). Five children living at home.

Edmund passed away in 1952.^[8] His death was registered in the fourth quarter in Ulverston, Lancashire.
