from the Casterton News 27 April 1914 "Wedding Bells. McFarlane--Cassidy. A wedding which created a great amount of local interest was celebrated in the Presbyterian Church, Dergholm, on Wednesday, April 8. The contracting parties were Mr Nichol McFarlane, third son of the late Mr Malcolm M Farlane, Hamilton, and Miss Caroline Cassidy, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs E. Cassidy, of Dergholm. The church was prettily decorated by lady friends of the bride, and a large number of friends witnessed the ceremony. The bride was becomingly attired in cream voile, trimmed with cream insertion, wreath and veil, and carried bouquet of asters and fern. The bridesmaids, Misses Elly and Myrtle Cassidy were attired in re- spectively in cream stripe voile, lace coats and hats trimmed with pink roses. The bridegroom's gift to the bride was gold chain and heart pendant, bride to bridegroom set gold sleeve links, bride- groom to bridesmaids silver hand mirrors. Mr E. J. Gull was best man, and the officiating minister was the Rev. Karl Forter, M. A. After the ceremony a large assembly of guests sat down to the wedding breakfast in the diningroom of the Dergholm hotel, where the usual toasts were honored and responded to. The newly wedded couple left in the afternoon en route for Portland, where the honeymoon was spent. The gifts to the young couple were numerous, costly and varied."
