Biography

Christian Friedrich zu Castell, was the third but second surviving and youngest son of Christian Friedrich Karl, Graf und Herr zu Castell, and his wife, Catharina Hedwig zu Castell-Remlingen, and was born 21 April 1772 at Remlingen.[1]

His father died 15 October 1773, and Christian Friedrich and his elder brother Albrecht Friedrich Karl, succeeded their father under the regency of their mother.[1] He was educated at Jena and Erlangen and then travelled through Germany and Switzerland as part of the 'grand tour'.[1]

Christian Friedrich, started his personal rule still jointly with his elder brother from 21 April 1797.[1] Castell had been dividied several times and their father had orginally succeeded to Castell-Castell, and then inherited Remlingen in 1762.[2] On the death of the last of the older line of Castell-Rüdenhause in 1803, the brothers united all of Castell.[2],[1] However they again divided the territory into the lines of Castell-Castell (Albrecht Friedrich Karl) and Castell-Rüdenhausen (Christian Friedrich).[2] Christian Friedrich moving his main residence to Rüdenhausen>[1]
