Franklin Riley Castleman was born on March 17, 1877 in Tracy Creek, Broome, New York, United States, son of Charles Nicholas Casselman (1829–1916) and Cordelia M Jenks (1835–1910).[1]
Franklin was a runner and competed in the 1904 Olympics in St. Louis, Missouri. He ran in the 60 meters, 100 meters and the 110 and 200 meter hurdles. He won a silver medal in the 200 meter hurdles.[2]
Franklin also played football for Colgate University, and graduated in 1906. He then took a coaching position at the University of Colorado at Boulder and served as the head coach for football, basketball and baseball. He left the University of Colorado in 1913 and became the track coach at Ohio State University from 1913-1931.[3]
Franklin (35) married Geneva Grigsby (28) (born on January 29, 1884 in Marysville, Clark, Missouri, United States) on July 11, 1912 in Denver, Colorado, United States.[4]
Franklin died on October 9, 1946 in Columbus, Franklin, Ohio, United States, aged 69.[5]
