There are two communities within the township's boundaries, namely the Village of Laird and the Hamlet of Neebish. The hamlet of Bar River is partially within Laird Township, as it straddles the boundary with Macdonald, Meredith and Aberdeen Additional.

Laird Township is now a Single Tier Municipality located within Algoma District.
