Biography

Elizabeth or Eliza was born in Girvan, Ayrshire on 8th May 1807 and baptised there on 11 May 1807. Her parents were James Cavans and Marion Ferguson. ^[1]

On 5th June 1835 Eliza married Andrew McGill in Girvan. ^[2]

In 1841 Eliza was estimated to be 30 years old. She lived at Myoch House, Girvan with her husband and children John McGill and James McGill. ^[3]

In 1851 Eliza was estimated to be 44 years old and living at Girvan Mains Farm, Girvan with her husband, family and her father. ^[4]

In 1861 Eliza was estimated to be 52 years old. Andrew was employed as a ploughman at High Grange Farm, Maybole and she lived with him and daughter Jane at High Grange Cothouse. ^[5]

In 1871 Eliza was estimated to be 53 years of age however this is clearly an error and her correct age should be nearer to 64. She lived at Littlemill Cottage, Girvan with her husband Andrew, daughter Jane and grandchildren Marion (McCulloch) and Bryce (McCulloch). ^[6]

Elizabeth Cavans died in Girvan in 1877. ^[7]
