- Note: Beginning with the 1900 census a time line of Sam Faires is as follows: 1900 Sam, age 32, lived in Greenfiel,Mo. with his parents and another sibling. He was employed as a Barber. 1901 he married Miltilda J ( Jennie) Cecil in Kansas City, Mo. No known address until the 1910 Census. 1910 Sam and Jennie lived at 1519 Holmes, his occupation continues to be a Barber. At this time Elmer Cecil age 20, (Jennies brother) is living with them. Elmer is age 20 and a furniture salesman. Elmer, married Sarah Jensen in 1913. They met at this home when Sarah attended a piano recital. Jennie was a piano teacher. 1920 census New address of 3514 Chestnut.(there is a picture of this house, which is a large 3 story shirtwaist. Same is now 52 and his occupation is listed as a Traveling Salesman. Ora, Jennie's sister, is now living with them. 1930 Same is now age 62 and living at 2701 E 35th St KC Mo. Jennie died of kidney failure in 1925. His occupation is listed as Life Insurance Agent and ora Cecil resides at this address also. Sam & Ora were married July 20, 1931. Jennie has died in 1925. Family history states that Ora kept house for Sam and Jennie throughout the years. Another family story is that Sam was unemployed during the depression but did not want his neighbors to know. He dressed in a suit each day and left the house as if going to work. This story was told to Betty J Miller Hummel by her mother Mary V. Cecil Miller. Another interesting note is that the 1930 census lists two renters at this address. They were listed as Ida Fergert, seamstress, age 50 and her son Edward, age 26, employed as a filing clerk at "Music House". It is an interesting observation to note that there seems to always be someone living at each of Sam's, either in laws or renters.
