John Chafer was born in Yorkshire, England.
This profile is part of the Eastrington, Yorkshire One Place Study.
John was born in Burland, Yorkshire, England, and was baptised nearby in Eastrington in 1829. He was the son of John and Mary Chafer.[1]

In 1841 John jr lived in Bellasize, Yorkshire, while working as an agricultural labourer for the Hairsine family.[2] At the time of the 1851 census John worked as a labourer for the Hodgson family in Portington, Yorkshire.[3] In June that year he married Elizabeth Moody (who also worked for the Hodgsons) in Eastrington.[4]

In 1861 the family lived in Gilberdyke, Yorkshire, where John was a farm labourer.[5] By 1881 they had moved to Altofts, Yorkshire.[6]

John died later in 1881 at the age of 51.[7]
