Charles was born in 1836. He is the son of Ezra Chaffee and Nancy Lovett. [2]
(This calculates to 1837. His mother died in June 1837 and there was always brother John Chaffee, age 13 on 1850 census, listed after him on the estate of father Ezra Chaffee. Thus he had to have been born in 1836 if not 1835. Charles was listed as 14 on the 1850 census.)
Buried in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn, Essex, Massachusetts.

He was an Engineer with the Lynn, Massachusetts fire department. He drove the teams to fires and kept the wagons in repair. He was present at the "Great Lynn Fire" that devastated the center of Lynn On 26 Nov 1889.
His granddaughters told of going to see Grandpa and Grandma on Sundays. One visit he had carved out peach pits for each girl, threaded a string through the pit and had put a penny in each one. The granddaughter that related the story got a far-away look in her eyes as she almost whispered, "I sure wish I had that peach pit necklace now."
