Aaron Harry Czernjack, called Harry Cherniack , was born 20 May 1899 in Ekaterinoslav, Ukraine, according to his 1934 application for U.S. citizenship. His World War I draft card says he was born 19 September 1899, and his World War II draft card says he was born 26 September 1898.
He was probably born near Kiev, Ukraine and he may be found on the 1920 U.S. census living at 59 Bartlett Street, Brooklyn, in the household of Harry Cherniack and Lena (Gelles) Cherniack.
Harry's World War I draft card, filled out in September of 1918, names his mother as Lena Chermack of 59 Bartlett Street, Brooklyn. That makes Harry Cherniack of 59 Bartlett Street his father.
Aron has a couple doppelganger cousins of almost exactly the same age.
Disambiguation: Aaron Harry Cherniack is a twin brother to Abram Itzak Czernichow or Shernick of Denver (they were both born 20 May 1899) and a first cousin to Aron Israel (Cherniak) Chernick (1898 - 1956) of Chicago. Their records are entangled on Ancestry.com. They have nearly identical birth and name data and can be easily confused.
A 1908 passenger list indicates that cousin Aaron Israel Cherniak of Chicago originated in Zbaraz, Ternopil, Ukraine under the name Aaron Czerniak and lists his father as S. Czerniak. It notes a tattoo on his right arm that says "Nanu v 1869,"
"Nanu" is a Hebrew version of the name Nathan, and it suggests Aaron was the son of Naftali Hersz Czerniack, aka "Nathan" or "Nanu" Czerniak Jr. who was born 1869. Both S. Czerniak and Naftali Hersz Czerniak Jr. were sons of Naftali Hersz Czerniak Sr. of London, England, which means Aron and Avram's paternal grandfather is clear.
Aron and Avram are the grandsons of Naftali Hersz Czernichowsky of London, known as Nat Charnock, who died at London on 24 May 1924. Nat has a brother named Abram (Czernichowsky) Symons or Derby, Derbyshire, UK who married to Esther Laya Rawsky, and they therefore have lots of Raskes and Symon or Simon cousins living next door to them in Brooklyn census records of the early 1900s.
