As the record will show (or not, in this case), there are no reported marriages for Catherine Chicoine. Three of the eight (plus?) children's fathers have been reported or discovered. Neither Jean Turcotte nor Michel Manning had enduring relationships with Catherine. It seems James (Jacques) Henley and Catherine lived in an undefined common-law marriage, or 'country marriage'. There has been no record of a sanctioned marriage yet found (Oct 2021). [2]
Legitimate Marriage Reported
Although there is no record of a marriage, two baptismal records report:
Marie Henlie, née à Percé le 28 Mar 1776 fille du légitime mariage de Jacques Henlie et de Catherine Chicoine sa légitime épouse
"Helene nee le 8 mai l'annee derniere du legitime marriage de Michel Manner et Catherine Chicoine..."
Children
"Catherine Chicoine left issue about eight natural children."[1]
In baptismal record Elisabeth is noted as 'illegitime' and the father not publicly known.[5]
Parents: Genealogically Uncertain
Catherine "Kitty" Henley (abt 1774-28 Feb 1821)
She was left under the care of Roger Henley (abt.1774-1821), the brother of 'Jacques' James Henley. Possibly because he was the father.[6][7]
Neither Kitty's paternity nor her maternity is certain, genealogically. Yet, Catherine "Kitty" Henley is the sister of John Henley (#4, below),[8] So she is a child of one or both of Catherine and 'Jacques' James Henley.
See individual profiles of children for further details.
Land Dispute
Following the death of Catherine's common-law husband, James Henley (abt.1739-1791), his brother Roger Henley, presents a challenge to Catherine's claim on James's land. The court ordered in favour of the widow Henley.[10]
Death
She passed away about 1795.
Research Notes
Catherine is confirmed as the sister of Louise through a dispensation for a "third degree of affinity," in the 2nd marriage of William "Bill" Maloney and Elizabeth Buckley. Bill had married 1st, Elizabeth's cousin Elizabeth Bond. Elizabeth Bond was the granddaughter of Louise Chicoine and Elizabeth Buckley was the granddaughter of Catherine Choicoine.[11][12]
We have discovered, on FTDNA, an atDNA match between three descendants of Catherine Chicoine through daughter Isabelle Elisabeth (Chicoine dit Henley) Henley and one descendant through her son Jacques Henley (abt.1778-1865) on the 2nd Chromosome from position 2632709-7456361. We are seeking another match on a different line of descent. [We observe that this match does not appear between two of the same kits uploaded to MyHeritage.]
It remains unclear how to use DNA testing to determine the fathers of her 2nd and 3rd children, or even to confirm the fathers of the other children.
Catherine was the daughter of, and therefore a matrilineal descendant of, Marie Boudot (abt.1715-1805) whose mtDNA Haplogroup is D1.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Catherine by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Catherine:
