Biography

Armina (Childress) Childers was born in Appalachia, in Kentucky.

Armina Bartley was born May 30, 1883 in Pike County, Kentucky. She is the daughter of Eli Bartley and Cynthia Ann Little. She is the eldest of all their children.

Her middle name, June, is unsure. There is a marriage record that gives her middle name as June, but the image is unavailable and her first name was transcribed incorrectly. She often went by the nickname of Mina or Minie.

Armina married Biven Meade Childress Sr. on February 8, 1899 in Dickenson County, Virginia. Together they had 17 children. Biven passed away on October 23, 1944.

Armina married for a second time after the death of her husband, Biven. She married William M. Childers on November 9, 1944 at Venters, Pike County, Kentucky. William was the first cousin of Biven Childers. Their fathers were brothers. William passed away 10 years later on November 14, 1954 at Big Branch, Pike County, Kentucky.

Armina passed away on January 15, 1964 in her home at Lookout, Pike County, Kentucky. She was laid to rest in the Childers Family Cemetery at Bowling Fork, Pike County, Kentucky on January 18, 1964.
