  • a 2000 posting by Bill Cheatham on GenForum entitled John Chittum of Goochland Co. VA which gives a brief suggestion that John Chittum & wife, Nancy Sly, "resided in Goochland Co., VA, 1810-1815 & Rockbridge Co., VA 1820-1830". The 1820 Federal census of Lexington, shows the household of John Chittum, and he evidently died sometime in 1834. I haven't looked at the 1830 census for them yet, because it isn't particularly important at this point. Bill lists 10 Chittum children, including Rhoda, and supplies some of their probable birth dates and marriage dates, with some locations. Four of the marriage locations are wrong. According to VA marriages, these four marriages took place, not in Goochland county, but in Greenbrier county, The dates are widely separated - Betsy & Kitty Cheatham in 1800 & 1807 respectively and Hezekiah Cheatham & Zachariah R. Chittum in 1813 & 1815, also respectively. The precise date for Zachariah is 17 Apr 1815.

Chitham-6 and Chittum-97 appear to represent the same person because: same person, just 2 different spelling variations. Same husband, same marriage.
