Biography

William was born in 1773, his Baptism was on 28th March 1773, [1][2] in Bowerchalke, Wiltshire, England. He is the eldest of two: Joseph (1776) the sons of William Chizlet (1728) and Elizabeth Mould (1739).

Under Walter Whitaker Dorset's: Wm was a Carpenter apprentice to Aaron Read on 12 August 1793 in Bower Chalk, Wiltshire.[3]

Presumed father in law Thomas Bond (abt.1739-1822)

Thos Bond as his last will and testament in the presents of us and in the presents of each other have hear unto set our names Thomas Bond (X) Wm Chizlett Senyer Wm Chizlett Junr Corneilious Chizlett.

1791 William witnessed Stephen Dimmer (bef.1768-bef.1855) marriage to Ann Aberry by banns in 1791 in Bower Chalke, Wiltshire.[4] another witness was James Day (1774-) - brother of George Day (bef.1781-) m. Ann (Bond) Day (bef.1786-) https://www.familysearch.org/tree/pedigree/landscape/L7KF-3K5

James Day and Mary Bond Mary and James are first cousins once removed Mary (Bond) Chizlet (abt.1774-1845) and James Day (bef.1774-bef.1834) are both descendants of Mary (Coster) Day (abt.1685-).

First Cousins Mary (Bond) Chizlet (abt.1774-1845) and Ann (Bond) Day (bef.1786-) are both descendants of Hannah (Day) Bond (bef.1715-bef.1758).

1792 William also witnessed Henry Oak (bef.1774-) and Elizabeth (Emm) Oak, another witness was Charles Critchell.[5]

William married Mary (Bond) Chizlet (1774-1845) on 30 Dec 1793 [6] in Bower Chalk, Wiltshire. The witnesses were Noah Newman (abt.1765-), William Targett, and John Brookman Clark. [7]

Bower Chalke is where they also baptised their children. [8]

Together they had 11 children, William occupation during the time of having nb 4 to 8 was as a Labourer, twins 9 and 10 a Sheppard, last child 11 he was a Carpenter:

  3. Joseph 17 November 1799.
  4. Cornelius 3 May 1802.
  5. Thomas 14 July 1805.
  6. Jane 19 April 1807.
  7. James 30 March 1810.
  8. Elizer 1 June 1812, passed away at 4mths old. Elizer 15th September 1813 burial.
  9. Elisha 26 Nov 1814. Elisha passed away at 13 weeks old. 17 February 1815 burial.
  10. Eliza passed away 14 weeks old. 23 February 1815 burial.
  11. Charles 9 Nov 1817.

William Chizlett was with his family in 1834-1836 in Bower Chalke, Wiltshire, England.[9]

In 1841 [10][11] William and Mary are with son Cornelius 2nd Wife Elizabeth Chislett formerly Cox who he married in 1839, looking after her stepchildren Kezia and William, William and Mary's grandchildren after their mother Betsey passed away in 1838. Elizabeth Wilkins granddaughter from Jane is also staying.

William passed away age 76 in 1849.[12] Burial April 17th 1849 at Bowerchalke.[13][14][15]

Research Notes

I am thinking this is Elizer - the name says Eliza, 4mths old. Burial is dated a year later after passing, so uncertain.

Elizabeth Wilkins on 1841 census possibly granddaughter so being Jane's daughter.
