On the 1851 census, Jane, aged 1 year, is living in Helmington Row with her parents and siblings: Joseph (15 years), John (14 years), Elizabeth (12 years), William (9 years), Esther (6 years) and Mary Ann (4 years).[2]
On the 1861 census, Jane, aged 11 years, is living in Newfield, Durham, with her parents and siblings. Joseph (26 years), John (23 years), William (19 years), Esther (16 years), Mary Ann (14 years), Ann Maria (9 years), Ralph (7 years) and George Thomas (4 years).[3]
Jane gave birth to an illegitimate son, William Clark, in 1868 but he adopted the Adamson surname after Jane married George Adamson in 1870. Jane and George had three other children, however their daughter, Mary Jane, died in infancy.[4]

On the 1871 census, George, a colliery labourer, and Jane are living in Byers Green, Durham, with their two children: William (4 years) and Mary Jane (10 months).[5]
After George Adamson's death in 1875, Jane married Henry George Miller and they had six children.[6]

On the 1881 census, Henry, a grocer, and Jane are living at 13 Burn Place, Wilmington, with their children: William (13 years), Thomas (8 years), Ralph (6 years), Annie (4 years) and George (10 months). The children from Jane's first marriage are listed under the Miller surname instead of Adamson.[7]
On the 1891 census, Henry, a butcher, and Jane are living on Front St, Byers Green, with their children: Thomas (19 years), Ralph (17 years), Annie (16 years), George (10 years), Emily (8 years) and Lillie (5 years).[8]
On the 1901 census, Henry, a colliery labourer, and Jane are living in Byers Green with their children: Ralph (26 years), George (20 years), Emily (18 years), Lillie (15 years), Joseph (9 years) and William (5 years).[9]
On the 1911 census,Henry, a colliery labourer, and Jane are living at High St, Byers Green, with their son, Joseph, aged 20 years, and two grandchildren, James, aged 15 years, and Elsie, aged 7 years. Jane and Henry have been married for 34 years and six children have been born, although one is deceased.[10]
Jane Clark died, aged 64 years, on 21 April 1913 and was buried in St Peter's Churchyard, Byers Green.[11]
