Ruth (Clarke) Alderslade was born in County Durham, England.
Ruth was born in 1886[1] in Stockton on Tees, County Durham, England, where she lived with her parents, Philip Clarke and Emma Pattison, in 1891.[2] The family lived in Thornaby, Yorkshire, in 1901, when Ruth was a domestic servant.[3]

In 1905 she married George Alderslade.[4] The family lived in Thornaby in 1911, when George worked as a wharf foreman, unloading ships at Whitwell's.[5] In 1939 the family lived on Stranton Street in Thornaby. George was a bookmaker and Ruth carried out unpaid domestic duties.[6]

George died in 1951.[7][8] Ruth died in 1952[9] at the age of 65.[10]
