Biography

Lieut William Clement was born in South Carolina in March of 1836 to Stephen Clement and Mary Cordelia (Clinkscales) Clement. He is listed with his parents and seven siblings on the 1850 Census in Laurens, South Carolina.[1] On October 18, 1860 in Georgia he married Mentoria Hutchins (1843–1911) and they are listed together on the 1870 Census (with four children) [2] and the 1880 Census (with nine children) in Forsyth, Georgia.[3] They are also listed together on the 1900 Census in the same location with six children still in their household.[4] He passed away in February of 1905 at the age of 68 and his find a grave memorial indicates that he was a 2nd. Lt., in Co E, Cherokee Legion, Georgia State Troops[5]; Confederate States of America and enlisted at Cumming, GA on 8/18/1863. [6]
