Jewell Clendenon was born in Appalachia, in Tennessee.

Jewell Leon Clendenon was born on October 4, 1925 in Van Buren, Tennessee, United States, son of Loyd Clendenen (1897–1964) and Mattie Eula Hitchcock (1903–1979).

Jewell married Lorene Shockley (born on May 22, 1922 in Spencer, Van Buren; daughter of Charles Lee Shockley and Cleo (Wilson) Shockley).

In the 1940 census Jewell (age 13) was the son of Loyd Clendenen in Rocky River, Van Buren, Tennessee, United States.^[1] Loyd Clendenen 43, wife Eula Clendenen 35, mother Rebecca Clendenen 79, daughter Hazel Clendenen 17, son Milton Clendenen 15, son Jewell Clendenen 13, daughter Ruby Clendenen 11, daughter Martha Clendenen 9, daughter Juanita Clendenen 7, daughter Francis Clendenen 5, son Junior Clendenen 3, son Cleston Clendenen 0.

In the 1950 census Jewell (age 24), Clerk Fire Condistre Farm, was the married head of household in Van Buren, Tennessee, United States.^[2] Jewell L Clendenen 24 years, wife Louise Clendenen 23 years, daughter Wilma R Clendenen 1 years.

Jewell died on September 5, 2017 in Van Buren, aged 91. He was buried in Molloy Cemetery, Spencer, Tennessee.^[3]
