Biography

Mary Cloud was born about 1820.^[1] [See Research Notes below about her birth year.]

In 1840,^[2] Aaron Heaston [sic] was living in Liberty Township, Fairfield County, Ohio as head of household, which included (age range) [possible names]: a) males - 1 (20 - 29) [Aaron Hiestand]; b) females - 1 (< 5) [Catherine Hiestand], 1 (5 - 9) [Isabella Hiestand], 1 (20 - 29) [Mary Hiestand].

In 1850,^[1] Mary Heaston [sic] (age 30, born Ohio) was living in Liberty Township, Fairfield County, Ohio in the household of her husband, Aaron Heaston [sic] (age 31, born Ohio), with their Heaston [sic] children, born Ohio (age, sex): i) Isabella (16, F), ii) Catherine (14, F), iii) Samuel (7, M), iv) Lewis (4, M), v) Jesse (2, M). Aaron's occupation was a farmer. Of note, on the same census enumeration sheet,^[1] the family immediately preceding Mary's was that of her widowed mother-in-law, Catherine Heaston, with her Heaston brothers- & sisters-in-law.

In 1860,^[3] Mary Hiestand (age 41, born Ohio) was living in Pleasant Township, Fairfield County, Ohio as head of household with her Hiestand children, born Ohio (age, sex): i) Catherine (21, F), ii) Lewis M. (12, M), iii) Jesse (8, M). Mary owned real estate valued at $400 and personal estate at $650.

In 1870,^[4] Mary Hiestan [sic] (age 46 [sic], born Ohio) was living in Pleasant Township, Fairfield County, Ohio as head of household with her Hiestan [sic] children, born Ohio (age, sex): i) Lewis (22, M), ii) Jesse (18, M). Mary owned real estate valued at $500. Mary's occupation was keeping house; Lewis' occupation was a school teacher and he owned personal estate valued at $300.

In 1880,^[5] Mary Hieston [sic] (age 64 [sic], divorced, born Ohio) was living in Pleasantville, Fairfield County, Ohio in the household of her son, Jesse Hieston [sic] (age 24, born Ohio). Jesse's occupation was a laborer.

Research Notes

• birth year - the extant census records provide different birth years for Mary, which vary from 1816^[5] to 1824^[4], with other years in between. Her 1st child was born about 1834, and hence that argues for her birth year being closer to 1816. Hiestand-529 23:48, 23 September 2022 (UTC)
