Notes

An online memorial site depicts a substantial Coats family monument bearing inscriptions for several family members ^[1]. The monument itself appears to be of much later genre (a large, polished granite block with mechanized chiseling, which engineering design did not become available until the late 19th century) than the actuarial periods in which these people lived. Hannah (Bill) and William Coats who are represented on this memorial block were the paternal grandparents of this John Coats. The other persons who are represented on this monument, though, are only extended family members (cousins, etc.) of this John Coats.
