Biography

William Cocker was born to Samuel & Elizabeth (Jackson) Cocker on the 30 Dec 1847 and baptised on the 27th Dec 1848 at the cathedral church of St Peter & St Paul in Sheffield.

In 1851 he was living with them and two younger siblings at 11 Morpeth Street in Sheffield.

In 1861 at the age of 13 he was working as a "file cutter" and was living with them and six younger siblings at 74 Morpeth Street in Sheffield.

When he was 21 and living in New Hereford Street he married Barbara Elizabeth Graham, the daughter of Joseph Graham, who was 22 and living in the same street on the 26th Nov 1867 at the church of St Mary' Bramall Lane Sheffield.

His whereabouts in 1871 has not been found as yet however his wife and three daughter with living with her mother and siblings.

By 1881 at the age of 33 and working at a steel works as a "railmill worker" he is shown as a widower and living back at home with his parents at Norton Hammer, Ecclesall Bierlow, Derbyshire together with a large extended family.
