Biography

Elizabeth Cocker was born to John Collard Cocker & Harriet (Foster) Cocker on the 4th March 1851 at North Adelaide in South Australia.

She married Edwin Woollet Botten on 11 June 1874 at St Matthew Church, Kensington. He was a 40-year-old widower, son of Thomas Botten; she was 23, daughter of John Cocker.^[1]

They had at least three children at North Adelaide:

• Ada Zellah Botten, 17 February 1880
• Edwin John Selby Charles Phillip W Botten, 13 November 1887
• William Henry Treharn Botten, 8 April 1896

Edwin died at age 80 in 1912 at Lower North Adelaide.

She died aged 70 on 3 February 1922 at North Adelaide.^[2] She was buried at North Road Cemetery.^[3]

BOTTEN.—On the 3rd February, at her residence, East Pallant-street, North Adelaide, Elizabeth, widow of Edwin John Botten, age 70 years. At rest.

Research notes

The licencee of the Lord Melbourne Inn in the 1870s was W. Botten, only a few tens of metres from J Cocker's (Elizabeth's father) Kentish Arms.^[5] then Hannah Botten.^[6] I'm yet to confirm this is Edwin's family's business. Davis-42955 13:43, 8 January 2024 (UTC)

Research Notes

A family member without source advises baptism was on 25th November 1857 at Christ church in Adelaide and that she married 1874 and died 1922
