Mary Ann Coe was born on 9 January 1803 and baptised 29 December 1811 at St. Benedict, Cambridge, the "illegitimate daughter" of Susanna Coe and William Daniels.
Mary's father was a gentleman and although he and her mother never married, William left all his personal estate to Mary and Susanna when he passed away before 24 December 1811, a few days before Mary was baptised, age 11.
By the time of her marriage Mary Ann was using the surname Daniels, and she (of the parish) married John Relph Stubbings (of St. Edwards) on 30 April 1825 at St. Botolph in Cambridge, by licence. The witnesses were Jos[eph] Lawrence and Sarah Brown.[1]
It seems that the couple had no children. John was a tailor and the couple ran a shop on Regent Street and then Kings Parade.
Mary Ann's headstone at St. Andrew the Less, Cambridge, states: "MARY ANN STUBBINGS relict of JOHN RELPH STUBBINGS b Jan 8 1803 d Dec 18 18[71] HENRY NEWTON late of the —– b Sept 8 1795 d June 30 1879."
According to her probate, Mary Ann Stubbings died on 18 December 1871 in Cambridge, and her will was proved on 6 February 1872 by Henry Newton, Gent, and Henry Smith of Cambridge, Bookbinder (image).
