Biography

Sir Thomas Colclough was born at Rosegarland, co. Wexford on 1 April 1564, the son of Sir Anthony Colclough and Clare Agard. [1]

In 1609 he obtained his livery and inherited the estate at Tintern, co. Wexford.[2]

Thomas married Martha Loftus, the daughter of Most Rev. Adam Loftus, Archbishop of Armagh and Lord Chancellor; and his wife Jane Purdon.[2]

Thomas was invested as a Knight in 1591. He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.). [1]

Martha died in March 1609.[1]

Sir Thomas married, secondly, in 1612 to Eleanor Bagenal, a Catholic and daughter of Dudley Bagenal and Mabel Fitzgerald.[2][3]

Thomas and his new Catholic family lived in the Duffry Hall, co Wexford, part of his new estate, whilest the protestant family remained at Tintern. These two factions would go to war against each other in the upcoming civil wars.[3]

Sir Thomas Colclough died on 23 August 1624.[4]
