Biography
William was born about 1823 in Orange County, North Carolina. He was the son of William Cole and Ellen Carroll. He was mentioned in his father's will in 1874.

He married Martha Ann (Strayhorn) Cole (abt.1828-1883), probably soon after 7 Jun 1847, when he posted a marriage bond in Orange County, North Carolina.[2]
In 1851 William sold land in Orange County to Elijah Couch for $440.00.[3] By 1855 William and his family were living in Moultrie County, Illinois.[4]
He died on 12 Feb 1898 in Dalton City, Moultrie, Illinois. "W. T. Cole died at 3:30 p. m. Saturday, Feb. 12 at his home in Dalton, City. His age was 76 years..."[5]
