Evidence from census and genealogical records proves that Catherine and her nephew Hyrum traveled to Utah between 1851 and 1856. Hyrum, was born in Canada in June 1850. The first documentation to place her in Utah is the birth of her daughter, Elizabeth Catherine Hawkes, 19 September 1857 in Spanish Fork, Utah. It is likely that she married Joseph Bryant Hawkes in Utah in 1855, but that information has not been confirmed. He came to Utah in 1851. Further research is needed to determine the year Catherine came to Utah and the name of the company she traveled with.[9]
