Biography

John Collins was born in approximately 1869 in Yackandandah, Victoria. [1]. He was the son of Denis Collins and Eliza Cleary.

He is identified as still living in 1913 at the time of his mother's death.

In 1899, John Collins married Mary Ada Clingin.[2]

At the time of his death, the registration recorded seven children:

  • Thomas Joseph Collins (died prior to 1945)
  • Margaret May Collins (born c.1900)
  • Anthony Collins (born c.1902)
  • John Francis Collins (born c.1904)
  • William Collins (born c.1906)
  • Mary Eliza Collins (born c.1909)
  • Francis Leonard Collins (born c.1911)

His occupation as recorded in the death registration appears to be "Dredge Manager" but this is uncertain.

John Collins died in Bendigo Base Hospital, Victoria, on 25 January 1945.[3] The cause of death was epithelioma of the jaw. He was buried at Kangaroo Flat Cemetery in Bendigo. his widow died some years later and there is a stone on the grave stating "Longtime residents of Yackandandah".[4]
