James, Jr. is the son of Judge James Dicken Conner, Sr. James, Jr. was the first boy to graduate from the Wabash High School after the schools of that city were graded in 1873. He attended Wabash College at Crawfordsville, graduating in 1876, passed his law exams and was admitted to the Bar, and married Clara later the year. He practiced law with his father (a member of Wabash County Bar since 1840) until James, Sr. was elected Judge. Then James, Jr. practiced law alone for for thirty years. In 1887 James Jr. Organized and incorporated the American Association of Importers and Breeders of Belgian Draft Horses. It was the first organization of its kind, dedication to the promotion and protection of the breed. The Association was recognized by both the governments of the United States and Belgium. James, Jr. was president for a number of years of the Wabash County Old Settlers Association, assisted in organizing the Wabash County Historical Society, and served as president and director of Citizens Savings and Trust Company of Wabash. He was a Mason, Knight of Pythias, and an Elk. [1]
James and Clara had two daughters, Anna ("Annie") and Julia. James and Clara are both buried in Falls Cemetery, Wabash, Wabash, Indiana. [2]
