Biography

Clara was born in 1856 in Wabash, Indiana, the daughter of William K. and Mary H. (Culbertson) Thurston.

In 1860, the Thurston family lived in Wabash, Noble Township, Wabash County, Indiana. The household included William K. Thurston, 26, born in Ohio, a druggist with $1000 in real estate and $5000 in personal estate; his wife Mary H., 23, born in Indiana; their three daughters, all born in Indiana: Clara P., 4; Anna L., 2; and an unnamed daughter, 3 months. Also living with them was Laura C. Thurston, 19. (William’s sister) ^[1]

In 1870, the Thurston family lived in Wabash, Wabash, Indiana. The household included William K. Thurston, 36, b. Ohio, a retired druggist with $4000 in real estate and $6000 in personal estate; his wife Mary H., 33, born in Indiana; their six daughters, all born in Indiana, and all in school except for the youngest two: Clara E., 13; Anna L., 11; Georgia E., 9; Florence B., 7; Maggie, 5; and Lena, 2.
