Source: S45 Title: Eighteen Receive Citizenship In Ceremony in Superior Court Text: Eighteen Receive Citizenship In Ceremony in Superior Court Receiving congratulations of Superior Judge Robert Gardner and Commander William Moore of the Santa Ana American Legion post, a class of 18 was admitted to citizenship yesterday in Judge Gardner's court. Both Morre and Judge Gardner urged the 17 new citizens and one repatriate to take part in the coming elections by studying out the candidates and propositions and "then going to the polls to vote." Moore welcomed the group to the "fight against communism in which a very small minority is trying to tear down our way of life." Gardner reminded the citizens that "bad public officials are elected by good voters who stay home," as he urged them to study the elections and "not vote blindly." The court session was opened by a prayer by Rev. A. J. Hatter. After the oath was administered by Clerk D. Perry Maynard, class members were presented flag codes by Mrs. John B. Nichols and Mrs. G. Cooke, of Iroquois, and Mr. Leslie Maude, son of Mr. and Mrs. Maude, of Guelph, were married at three o'clock on Saturday afternoon in St. Patrick's Anglican Church, which was beautifully decorated for the occasion with ferns and autumn flowers. Rev. R. M. Field officiated. Mr. Thomas Yonger played the wedding music and during the signing of the register Mr. Roland Fell sang "O Promise Me." The bride, given in marriage by her brother, Mr. Alfred Cooke, was gowned in white crepe trimmed with lace, wore a silk embroidered veil cuaght in cap shape to her head with orange blossoms, and carried Briarcliffe roses. Mrs. M. Baker, sister of the bride, was matron of honor and wore a blue crepe dress trimmed with grey, with hat to match, and carried Butterfly roses. Miss Kathleen Maude, sister of the groom, as br desmaid, was gowned in rose crepe trimmed with grey, and with hat to match. Her flowers were Johanna Hill roses. Mr. Edward Butcher was best man and the ushers were Mr. Meryl Baker and Mr. Stuart Maude. The reception was held at the home of Mrs. A. Lewis, Nottingham Street. Mrs. Cooke, mother of the bride, wore brown silk with matching hat and corsage of Johanna Hill roses and lily of the valley, and Mrs. Maude, mother of the groom, grey crepe with hat to match, and corsage of Talisman roses. Guests were present from Iroquois, Uxbridge, Hamilton, Toronto and Guelph. Later the bride and groom left on their wedding trip, the bride travelling in a grey swagger suit with hat and shoes to match. She carried a grey leather purse, the gift of the groom. On their return they will reside at 123 Elizabeth Street.
