Sarah Virginia Costilow was born in 1868 in West Virginia, United States, daughter of James Nelson Costilow (1843–1928) and Edith Crislip Wright (1843–1932).

Sarah (23) married Andrew Jackson Rager (22) (born on October 28, 1869 in Monongalia, West Virginia; son of Alexander Rager and Mary Ellen Pride) on March 29, 1892 in Taylor, West Virginia. Their children were:

- Nelson James Rager (1897–1955)
- Alexander Rager (1904–1971)
- Pansy Rager (1911–1935)
- Robert William Rager (1914–1998)
Sarah died on September 9, 1934 in Monongalia, West Virginia, aged 65. She was buried in Halleck Cemetery, Monongalia County, West Virginia.[1]
