Biography
Emmett Cotton is a part of US Black heritage.
Son of Smiley Cotton and Vinnie Brown.
Emmett was aged 6 when he was enumerated in the household of his uncle Fawn B. Cotton in Red River County, Texas.[1]
Emmett was aged 18 when he was enumerated in the 1930 Census along with relatives Frank Dodson age 54 b Texas, Henrietta Dodson age 40 b Texas and Joe Dodson, brother of Frank, aged 40 b Texas. Emmett was listed as a nephew of the head of household.[2]
Emmett married as his second wife Rachel Hodnett, 25 May 1943 in Los Angeles. Emmit was born in Kilgore, Texas. He was age 31. It was his second marriage. Emmit was in the U. S. Army and Rachel's occupation was plaster coating. Emmit was the son of S. M. Cotton of Texas and E. Strahan of Oklahoma.[3]
He was killed in a homicide at his home, 8 May 1957, at 5433 Blackwelder in Los Angeles. The autopsy found asphyxia and fracture of the thyroid cartilage and fracture of the skull with intercranial bleeding.[5]
