Ruth married Herbert John Trevorrow in Rose Park, South Australia on 23 December 1937.[2] The following wedding report was published in the South Australian newspaper, The Border Watch, on 30 December 1937:[3]
TREVORROW—COUNSELL.
At the Rose Park Congregational Church on Thursday afternoon last, the marriage took place of Ruth Elma, daughter of Mrs. E. F. Counsell, of Alexandra Avenue, Rose Park, and the late Mr. F. H. Counsell, to Herbert John, son of Mrs. H. and the late Mr. J. E. Trevorrow, of Mount Gambier. The Rev. A. H. Bell officiated. :The bride, who was given away by her cousin, Mr. Kingsley Counsell, wore a handsome gown of magnolia brocaded suede, patterned in a leaf design and moulded to the figure. The yoke was handworked in a lace pattern, and the tight-fitting sleeves were pleated at the shoulders and trimmed with small buttons. A deep cream Callibuntal hat, trimmed with large velvet leaves, was worn, and the bride carried a sheaf of deep cream gladioli and vangipani.
The bridesmaid, Miss Gwenyth Counsell, sister of the bride, chose a graceful frock of salmon pink brocaded suede, cut on princess lines, with short pleated sleeves and trimmed with a long plaited girdle falling to the hem in front. A large crinoline hat, trimmed with velvet leaves, completed the ensemble. The bridesmaid carried a sheaf of salmon pink gladioli. Mr. W. N. Oates was best man and Mr. Malcolm Coward was at the organ. The usher was Mr. R. S. Moody. The church was beautifully decorated with salmon pink gladioli and blue agapanthus.
A reception was held at the Wentworth, where 60 guests were entertained. Mrs. Counsell (the bride's mother) was smartly gowned in deep amethyst crepe with hip length coat. She wore a black callibuntal hat trimmed with velvet flowers toning with the frock, and carried a posy of golden emblem rosebuds. Mrs. Trevorrow, mother of the bridegroom, wore an attractive floral frock of autumn shades with a brown coat, hat and accessories. She carried a posy of deep gold gladioli.
After the reception the bride and bridegroom left by the express for Melbourne. The bride's travelling dress was light navy French crepe of floral design, with full sleeves and a high neckline, finished with rolled collar. She wore a navy callibuntal hat and navy accessories.
