Biography

The 1851 Census, Canada West, Frontenac County, Kingston Twp, Part 3 shows Charles C. Counter age 15, born Canada W, Church of England, along with family: Margaret A. V. age 12, Isabella 10, Henry 8, George 4 and his mother Charlotte age 37, Inkeeper, born Ireland. 1861 Canada Census shows the family living in a 2-story stone house. 1865 Directory and Gazetteer of the Counties of Frontenac, Lennox and Addington, shows Charles living at Concession 4 Lot 17, Kingston Twp. 1871 Census shows Charles age 33, a farmer and hotel keeper. 1872 Charles C. Counter, age 35, married Hester Ann Worden, age 19, in Kingston. The 1878 Historical Atlas of Frontenac County shows Charles Counter has Conc. IV Lot 18 (15 acres) and Conc. IV Lot 17 (60 acres). 1881 Census Charles, age 43 is still a hotel keeper, married Hester, age 28 and they have 3 children: Lottie 7, Jethro 4 and Margaret 2. 1891 Census lists Charles age 63, with Charlotte [Lottie] age 16, Charles Jeff [Jethro] 13, and Maggie [Margaret] 11. 1901 Census Charles age 63, a farmer, is living with his daughters Lottie 26 and Maggie 21. Charles died at age 74 in Kingston Twp. and is buried at Christ Church Anglican Cemetery, Cataraqui, Old H Section, Kingston Twp, Frontenac, Ontario.
