Biography

Benjamin Collett married Sarah Cox on 6 May 1790 at Weston All Saints, Bath ^[1]. ^[2]. One of their grandsons, John Cox Newman Collett, was given his grandmother’s family name (supporting the hypothesis that it was Sarah Cox that Benjamin married). Their banns were published on 18th April, 25 April and 2 May 1790 ^[3]

Sarah Cox might be the Sarah who was baptized on 16 January 1769 at Easton, Wiltshire, England. She was the daughter of John Cox and Sarah Cox.^{[4][5] [6]}

It makes sense to me that it’s this Sarah, as her son Benjamin farmed at Easton Farm and there might be some connection to his mother’s family, particularly as she was widowed early.

But there are these other Sarah Coxes to consider: Sarah Cox, baptized 8 August 1770, daughter of Robert and Ann Cox, at Rowde, Wiltshire.^[7][8] Sarah Cox, baptized 5 July 1772, daughter of Bartholomew and Mary Cox, at Bishopstone (near Little Hinton), Wiltshire.^[9][10]
