Sarah (Crafts) Cooper was born in Middlesex, England.
Early Life
Sarah Crafts was born in Paddington, London on March 1st 1827 to William Crafts, a boatman, and his wife Jane Passmore. She was baptised at Christ Church, Marylebone on March 21st 1827. [1]
Sarah's father died in 1832 at age 35 and her mother soon remarried William Bates. She was living with her mother, stepfather and half-sister Mary in 1841 at 22 Little James Street in Marylebone. [2][3]
Married Life
On November 6th 1853, at St Mary's Church, Paddington, Sarah married Charles Bristow Cooper. Both she and Charles were living on the North Wharf Road near the Paddington Basin. [4][5]
In 1861, Sarah was living with her husband and five children at 38 North Wharf Road. Charles was listed as working as a general labourer as were their two eldest children. [6]
By 1881, Charles and Sarah had moved to 21 Bowmans Buildings in Marylebone and were living there with their two children and granddaughter Sarah Buck. Charles was still working as a general labourer. [7]
A decade later, in 1891, Sarah was living in one room at 15 Dudley Street in Paddington with her husband and son William. Since Charles had become infirm and could no longer work, Sarah took up work in a dust yard. [8]
Death
Sarah is though to have died, aged 64, in Kensington in January 1892. It is also thought that she was buried on January 15th of that year in the St Marylebone Cemetery in Finchley. She was survived by her husband and children. [9][10]
