Daughter of Jacob Craig and Avodyne Bronson. 1870 Census--these are probably Lavina's parents: Harrison Township, Knox Co., Indiana. Series M593, Roll 331, page 42, 18 June 1870, P. O. Wheatland, line 30, dwelling 209, family 215

This wife has to be Lavina Craig Cannon, because of the age difference between her and Basil and because she could hardly have a son age 21 if she were 22 herself.

Basil Columbus Cannon died 6 Feb 1895, Daviess County, Indiana.

Second marriage was to Jacob Spitzig, ca. 1896. In 1900 LaVina was living with her second husband in Daviess County, Indiana.

Research Notes

Death place uncertain. She apparently died around the time her grandson Willard (Cannon? later McCraney) was born in Lawrence County, Arkansas, 10 May 1907. She was in that locality at least by 18 Nov 1906, when her son Jacob Edward Cannon in his marriage record gave his mother's residence as "near Walnut Ridge, Lawrence, Arkansas." ^[6] Jacob Spitzig married Mrs. Malinda Fauts in Walnut Ridge, Lawrence, Arkansas, 2 Jun 1907. He was aged 48, she was aged 25. LaVina is assumed to have died between 18 Nov 1906 and 2 Jun 1907 (date of her second husband's remarriage), probably in Walnut Ridge.

I would not be surprised if Jacob Spitzig, Lavina Spitzig, Tilitha Cannon, Harold M. Cannon, Esther Cannon, Basil Cannon Jr. and Emily Cannon all went down to Arkansas from Indiana at this time. Why Walnut Ridge, Arkansas? I have not found any other family down there. Was Lavina still living at the time her grandson was born? What caused her death?

By 1910 LaVina's second husband James Jacob Spitzig had moved on to Wright County, Missouri and had remarried. ^[7]
