Norine E. Crawford was born on 30 Aug 1908 in Benton Township, Columbia, Pennsylvania. She was the second of seven children born to Charles Clyde Crawford and Euta May Belles, and the first to live to adulthood. In April 1910 she is listed on the census living with her parents on a farm in Benton Township.[1] The 1915 census shows her living in Center Township near Tipton, Cedar, Iowa with her parents and sister Edith, and indicates that the family had been living in Iowa for two years.[2]
Norine graduated from Tipton High School, Tipton, Cedar, Iowa in 1926. After graduation, she attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Rapids, Linn, Iowa. She worked as a schoolteacher for more than 30 years. She first taught in the rural Cedar County Iowa schools, Hebron, 1929-1930; Spring Creek 1930-1931 and Cass No. 4, 1932-1934. She began teaching in the elementary grades in Tipton in 1935 and later taught in the Clarence elementary school.
On 12 Oct 1940, Norine married Marvin Schilling in Tipton. The couple had two sons:
Philip Allen Schilling
William C. Schilling
Norine Schilling died on 27 Mar 1993 in Saint Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, Linn, Iowa.[3] She was buried on 30 Mar 1993 in Clarence Cemetery, Clarence, Cedar, Iowa.[4]
