Biography

Robert Crawford, son of John Crawford & Margaret Rankin, was born on 06 May 1816 in Bothwell, Lanarkshire, Scotland, United Kingdom and baptised on 26 May 1816 in Barony, Lanarkshire, Scotland.^[1][2][3]

Robert married Lillias Notman^[4] about 1838^[5]in Midlothian, Scotland. together they had 9 children:^[5][6]

Robert and his family emigrated from Scotland to the United States in 1854, arriving at New York City, New York, United States^[7] on the steamship Kentucky^[7] from Liverpool, Scotland, U.K.^[7].

In the 1841 census Robt (age 25), Miner, was living in Sancherside, Cranston, Midlothian with his wife Lilias and 2 of his children Ann (age 2) and Giac Age 2) ^[5]

In the 1851 census Robert (age 35), Coal Miner, was the married head of household at 19 Castle Hill, Newbattle, Midlothian, Scotland living with his wife Lilias (age 32), daughters Ann (age 11) and Margaret (age 3) and sons John (age 8), Robert (age 5), abd James (age 3). ^[3] .

They relocated to Hickory Township, Mercer, Pensylvania,^[6] ( which became the Municipality of Hermitage in 1976, and then the City of Hermitage in 1984. ^[8]) where Robert continued his occupation as a coal miner^[3][6].

Their last two children, Jeanet Crawford and William Crawford were born in Pennsyvania.

Robert passed away in 1865 and was buried in Keel Ridge Cemetery, Hermitage, Mercer, Pensylvania, United States.^[9]
